VCRA v2.0.0

Major Updates:

  • VCRA is now FREE for everyone! (more on this below)
  • SteamVR Tracking added!
  • New UI for the SteamVR version of VCRA. The other options were considered "Discontinued", as you can do everything on this new mode. Old versions were kept, in case the user prefers using those.
  • Reworked the point of view. Camera sliders removed, now you can look around using your mouse (SteamVR).
  • Reworked Offsets. Offset sliders removed, now there is a whole different system, easier to use (SteamVR).
  • Unity-chan has been included with the download, to be used as testing purposes of everyone.
  • Everyone will now be forced to use the 2.0 version of VCRA. This means that everyone will have to redownload to be able to use VCRA.

Minor Updates:

  • Slightly improved performance.
  • Edited some lighting settings, now avatars should have a more accurate color.
  • Fixed some random crashes.
  • Improved Avatars import performance.
  • Vsync adjusted. No more fps going through the roof and using unnecessary resources.
  • IK has been changed to something that can work better with VR tracking devices (SteamVR).

Known Issues and Fixes:

  • Vsync messes up once SteamVR is selected. Due to how SteamVR works, and because I still have not  found a way around it, Vsync settings get overwritten once Steam VR is launched. Once you choose this mode, make sure to remove the sleeping mode from the headset (at least once with VCRA launched). This will make the Vsync work with the refresh rate of your headset. Otherwise, there is a chance that you are rendering way more frames than necessary!
  • Camera controls can be a bit weird to get used to. You can combine the camera rotation and the tracking devices position to have the best result.
  • Avatars do not always show up at the exact same place. If you have imported an Avatar, and you do not see it, try scrolling your camera out, or moving it around.
  • Webcam tracking can go a bit crazy when using or not looking on the general direction of the camera. It is recommended to have good room lightning, no light sources against the camera or behind you, and the camera being eye-level (Try centring yourself with the camera field of view)
  • Webcam keeps restarting after the first time choosing it on the VCRA session. This should fix itself after a few attempts, but you can try reselecting the camera, and the tracker, and see if it helps.

How to use the new features:

  1. Once you open VCRA, you can now select the 3rd option, SteamVR.
  2. After selecting that option, you will land on a brand-new UI.
  3. Proceed to import the avatar like it was done before.
  4. Now you should press the Tracking button and select the desired trackers for each available body part.
  5. Press the "RecenterVR" to set the current device positions as the "Centre" in VCRA.
  6. Proceed to "Edit Offsets" to do adjustments to the tracking positions and rotations.
  7. You press C at any moment to toggle the camera position and rotation adjustments. After toggling it on, just hold left click with your mouse, and drag around.

Now, let us talk a bit.

VCRA has been a journey for me, a hard one.  I never had the intention of making this project “public”, VCRA was a project for myself and for my streams, but due to friends and family recommendation, I started doing way more things that were ever intended, as well as entering domains that I had zero knowledge on.

When I started to make this public, even though the development of VCRA was not funniest, or easiest, the recognition and feedback was fuelling me motivation to keep the development. This is when I realized. I do not care about the revenue it makes, what I am really after and what makes me happy, as a developer, is seeing people use and enjoy my Software.

That being said, my motivation for developing VCRA has started to drop a lot on the past 4 months. Personally, I do not enjoy working with Virtual Reality and Augmented Reality at all. It is fun seeing results, and seeing things working, but the process behind all of it, the problems we (as developers) come across while developing in this kind of technologies, is something I cannot bring myself to enjoy. Due to this fact, I am sorry to inform that I will be stopping the development of VCRA.

Now, because of that exact reason, I cannot bring myself to accept any more purchases. In my opinion, anything that I sell, I need to provide support for it, and because I do not intend to continue to do any further deep development, I am making it free for anyone to use.

Small updates might still happen, with some bug-fixing, but please understand that new features, or hard to implement features will probably not come.

Aside from all that, I want to thank everyone that supported me throughout the development of VCRA. I would like to apologize to everyone that purchased VCRA, I know it is unfair, but now I am doing what I think is right. Either way, VCRA is still something I am proud to have developed and is something that was only made possible because of all the mental, emotional, and financial support I was provided by you.

I would love to include everyone who paid for VCRA, but I don't think I have access to the list of who bought VCRA through itch.io. Because of that, if you wish to be included on the Patreon symbol in VCRA, and you bought VCRA through itch.io, please contact me c:

Any further questions about VCRA, please do not hesitate to ask.

Thank you!
